Amyann Kahler

“To me, Valiance means bravery and leadership. The person at the front, the person leading the charge and unafraid.”

Flowers have a way of making one happier, it’s almost like medicine for the soul. When you’re sick, sad, angry, or lonely, being given flowers immediately lifts your spirits. That’s what Daylight Mind is all about; bringing the sunshine back to your life. Amyann Kahler is the owner of Daylight Mind company. She started the business in 2016 when she was asked to help arrange the flowers for a friend’s wedding. She fell in love with the artistic process of putting flowers together, the process of event planning, as well as the feeling of helping people feel light and happy on their big day. By the end of 2016, she had catered flowers for 4 weddings. Kahler caters flowers for weddings, corporate events, bridal showers, and baby showers. What started out to be a fun little hobby has since turned into a successful business in Kansas City, Missouri.

“I love flowers, they’re beautiful and have their own language.”

The name of the business came from the idea of flowers being good and beautiful. Kahler’s inspiration for the name stems from a quote by Richard Feynman, “You can recognize truth by its beauty and simplicity.” She believes that flowers are true, themselves, and are inherently beautiful. She feels that flowers ground people, that it brings people into the present moment of where they are. Flowers also tend to bloom and thrive in the daylight. She wants people to have a light and airy feeling; to transform them into a moment where they simply have peace and joy in their hearts.

“Daylight Mind: It gives it that light and airy perception that I want people to experience when they have flowers at their weddings or when they buy flowers for someone. That transformative feeling.”

In the 4 years since Kahler has been in business, the biggest lesson she has learned is to always go into situations as a learner. That one should always be willing to learn, ask questions, never assume you know it all. Being a learner can present more doors of opportunities because it allows people to not only want to help you but also work with you. One of the challenges Kahler faces is dealing with clients who prejudge her based on the fact that she looks young. She overcomes that by believing that not everyone is for her. She expresses that the right clients will find you if you are consistent and are excellent at what you do. Kahler's advice to those who are getting started in their own business is to just go for it! Make the space for yourself.

“Usually it’s people’s own fear that gets in the way. Just say, ‘I don’t have time for fear.’ ...don’t be afraid to fail.”

Kahler wants Daylight Mind to be thought of as a company that symbolizes hope; to know that there is still goodness in the world. She believes that flowers are a symbol of hope that helps one to keep going through the day. What motivates her to continue her passion of being a florist is wanting to make an impact in the world around her; to uplift them, to wake them up to the beauty of life.

“Maybe you’re not spending seven grand on a wedding but someone will bring you a small little bouquet and it’s like ‘I see you, I appreciate you, I want you in my life’.”

Over the course of the next few years, Kahler hopes to have employees and a bigger studio space for the business. She wants to be able to give job opportunities to people who would not be considered by other businesses, making people feel seen and valued in the workplace.
