Hadassah Bhero

My name is Hadassah Bhero. I am 26 years old and I own a  clothing brand called @hadassah_creations. I have been a designer for 4.5 years now. I am a qualified bachelors graduate in cognitive science but my passion is fashion. So instead of the corporate world, I entered the fashion world as a designer, stylist and image consultant.

1. What inspires you when you create a look?

Confidence and uniqueness inspires me.

Each look that I create is to enhance one's confidence yet carry one's personality with unique features. Most of the looks I create are about how I want to feel based on where I will be going, the mood of the environment, and always keeping it classy.

It’s not always that creative juices flow so sometimes I get inspiration from series/shows that have classy women.

2. How did you get started on this?

Passion for fashion is a journey that really starts from a young age. When I was in my teens, I would turn my skirts into tops and tops into skirts or dresses. I was all for closest maximising, an item had to have more than one use. Then I started sewing and making day-wear. Each look had to at least make 4 outfits. I was a young ambitious girl and I still am. Sewing clothes opened me into a whole new different reality of fashion. It helped me gain my confidence, as a young girl who was a size 4 or 6 (26/28), it was impossible to fit into clothes. The clothes never really represented skinny women the way I wished it would be represented. I wanted to change that narrative for myself. To have clothes that carry the image of a petite woman with class and luxury. This meant having more waist fitting high waisted pants or high waisted pencil skirts. Maxi dresses that we don’t look like we're drowning in as tiny women. The more confidence the looks gave me, the more I wanted to include other women too. I wanted to restore our confidence by tailoring our clothing to our mental and emotional desires. Ever since then, every look I wear or create for my brand has been about confidence restoration.

3. What excites you about fashion and style?

It’s the gift that keeps on giving lol literally. Fashion and style are really a way of expressing your character, so when you pay attention to detail you see that we dress how we feel or think. One shouldn’t confuse clothes with fashion & style. Fashion is effort, fashion is passion and expression. Clothes are constructed of fabric without personality, e.g., a linen shirt and black formal pants to wear to work on a gloomy Tuesday, that is clothes. Whereas fashion and style is the tailored suit you make because you sign big deals and you want everyone to feel your confidence and achievement through the visual texture of your fabric, the specific cut of your suit and the personalized shirt you are wearing. That’s what excites me about fashion. It tells a story, it represents a mood and expresses your confidence levels.

Fashion and style cannot be limited as human comprehension, moods and stories are unlimited. We may wear the same style but look different because of how we tell the story and feel different from each other. That’s the power that fashion has.

4. What does your style say about you?

My style is all about class and luxury with a bit of sex appeal. My style is all about uniqueness. A one of a kind woman...the guarantee that if I walk in a room I wouldn’t look the same with another woman even if we were wearing the same dress simply because the way I would have styled it makes it unique. My style has a lot to do with creativity, a look actively sharing my personality from how I’ve styled it, always classy and always fabulous

 5. Why is this your passion?

Fashion is my passion because of the power it has. The ability to restore confidence in oneself, the ability to tell a short story through clothing. It’s always evolving and very inclusive. Once you find what style you identify and feel most comfortable with then you can strive.

In one line fashion is my passion because it is a way of expressing oneself through textured representation.

1. What inspires you when you create a look?

Honestly, it all depends on my mood. I have days where I feel like the "baddest ting" walking, so I’ll dress like I am, or even a rock star or preppy and so on. It just depends on the mood I wake up in on that day. Rihanna is someone I look up to so sometimes I try to recreate some of her old looks with a twist of my own.

2. How did you get started on this?

I have always been Interested in fashion since I was very young. My mom would go shopping like every week when I was young. But once I started making my own money, I was able to play in fashion and buy whatever I wanted and I just found my style through that.

3. What excites you about fashion and style?
The freedom of self expression. Fashion helps me express myself in many ways that I couldn’t before. When I was younger I was not as outspoken due to having social anxiety at that time. But I was able to express my personality or my mood through the clothing that I wore. Being confident in what I wore made me more confident within myself.

4. What does your style say about you?

My style says I’m not afraid to try something new and be different. When I say different, I mean being in my own lane. I feel like there’s not as much individuality in fashion in this generation. It’s more about if it’s trending then people will wear it, there’s nothing wrong with it, I personally just don’t want to always follow trends.

5. Why is this your passion?

I honestly don’t know why fashion is my passion. It’s just something that relaxes my mind and makes me happy. I literally think about fashion everyday. Fashion means the world to me because I was able to rely on it when I struggled with expressing who I was as a person.
